Dear first-year student!
Welcome to Makhambet Utemisov West Kazakhstan University!

Student life is, first of all, learning, so do not forget that the main goal of a student is to gain knowledge, develop competence, and learn to work independently.

Do not limit yourself only to academic classes, try to know and learn more, participate in student research work, in the cultural and social life of the university. Do not be afraid to strive forward, your fellow students will always come to your aid, and the advisor, curator, teachers, as well as the leadership of educational programs/departments, faculties and the university will help you with their advice and work.

You have been given the privilege of being part of an educational institution with a history of almost a century, which has played an important role in the development of the region and the country, and this event imposes a special responsibility on you and opens up great opportunities for you.

Each academic year consists of two semesters, each semester consists of 15 weeks of theoretical study (classes according to the schedule, IELTS (independent work of the student under the guidance of a teacher), IELTS (independent work of the student)). At the end of each semester, an intermediate certification (examination session) is held. Also, various educational and professional seminars are held in accordance with the approved academic calendar (schedule of the educational process).

Types of educational activities at the university can be divided into classroom and extracurricular. Classroom activities include: lectures, laboratory work, practical and seminar classes, consultations, exams. Extracurricular activities include those that students perform outside of class time, outside the schedule, but with the advice of teachers: preparation for laboratory, practical, seminar classes, course projects, startups, etc.

A feature of learning is the need for constant independent work. Unfortunately, not all first-year students are able to properly plan their time, organize their study space, and overcome any internal psychological problems and obstacles. Accurate planning of working hours and rest is a necessary condition for the success of independent work. To do this, it is recommended to familiarize yourself with the syllabus (available at the relevant departments and teachers), the individual curriculum (personal curriculum) and the lesson schedule (on the university website https://wku.edu.kz/kz) of the subjects taught in the semester.

The educational process at the university is carried out using credit learning technology (planning and organizing the educational process using credit learning technology).

By September 5, you need to create your own individual curriculum (choose a learning trajectory, register students) with the help of an advisor based on the educational program and the catalog of elective subjects (EPC).

Your academic achievements in all types of academic tasks are assessed using a point-rating letter system of assessment (Rules for organizing and conducting monitoring of academic achievements, Assessment of academic achievements of students).

An access system operates in all educational buildings of the university, you need to obtain an access card (the dean's office organizes the receipt of the card).

Every student of our university should know the heads of the university, faculties, services and departments (https://wku.edu.kz/index.php/en/yniver-admin).

No matter how carefree and cheerful a student's life may seem, we all have rights and obligations, which are spelled out in detail in the Rules of Conduct for Students of M. Utemisov BKU (https://wku.edu.kz/kk/zhizn- zkgu/vospitatelnaya-rabota3/pravila-povedeniya-studentov-zku). They must be observed throughout the entire period of study.

All rules and procedures for planning and managing educational activities are set out in the Academic Policy of M. Utemisov BKU (https://wku.edu.kz/index.php/en/oku/akadem-sayasat).

To prepare for all types of classes in the classroom and outside the classroom, you need to get educational literature. Information about the working hours of the library departments can be found on the university website at http://lib.wku.edu.kz .

Student life is not only about memorizing lessons and preparing for exams, there are also many areas of extracurricular activity, these are various sports and art sections, clubs, associations, circles, volunteer work, etc. (information is on the "For Students" page on the university website, as well as you can get full information from your dean's office).

Dear student! Studying at M. Utemisov West Kazakhstan University opens up many opportunities for you. Let the years spent here be the basis for your future success. You have an interesting and fulfilling path ahead of you, and may it be successful! Good luck in your studies and in life!
